Changes to legislation in 2015 means there is no longer a charge for doctor’s certification for cremations in Scotland.
Similar legal changes to the death certification process are being considered for the rest of the UK by Parliament currently. In anticipation of these changes we have removed the cost of these doctor’s fees from all our plans from the launch of the June 2016 price increase. This will bring us in line with all the other major Funeral Plan providers such as Golden Charter and Dignity, thereby allowing clients to assess plans on a more like for like basis.
If the funeral takes place outside of Scotland and before the legal changes are made throughout the UK, then, if applicable, the doctor’s fees must be paid by the next of kin or personal representative, when arranging the funeral.
